OMG! What an interesting draw we have in this season's UEFA Champions League Draw for the 06'07 season...
Here is a summary of the draw:
Barcelona - Liverpool*PSV Eindhoven - Arsenal
Lille - Manchester United
F.C Porto - Chelsea
Real Madrid - Bayern Munich*Inter Milan - Valencia
AS Roma - Lyon
Celtic - AC Milan
LOL... This is the best draw i have ever seen in my whole life. Man Utd, the team i support has been drawn with Lille, which is supposedly the 'weakest' team out of the 16 teams. Chelsea face Porto where Jose Mourinho aka The Special One will return to Portugal to pit his wit against his former club where he led Porto to Champions League glory in 2004.
Arsenal travel to Holland to face PSV Eindhoven where they are currently first in their domestic league. However, the gunners are expected to pass through the top 16 stage smoothly. Valencia travel to Italy to face Inter where top strikers like David Villa and Ibrahimovic fight it out to see who gets their team progressing in this competition.
Roma, will face French Champions, Lyon in this grueling encounter where Totti will set to fight it out in a battle with Lyon's skipper, Juninho. Scottish side Celtic face AC Milan where Milan are clearly the favourites to win with inspirational players like Kaka and Pirlo. Celtic meanwhile have dangerous players to look out for such as Nakamura and Vennegoor of Hesselink.
However, what caught the eye of many was the draw of defending champions Barcelona against 2005 Champions League holder Liverpool. Liverpool's domestic form may not meet many fan's expectations, however, they look like a different side in Europe. Strikers like Peter Crouch will look set to score against the clear favourites, Barcelona, to stage an upset by eliminating last season's cup holder. However, Barcelona is not a weak side too, despite missing key players like Messi and Eto'o , Bacelona remain a tough team to beat, as seen from their first position in the domestic league. Liverpool will have to get ready for Barcelona's silky, attacking football if they have any hopes of passing through this round. However, I feel that its all over for the REDS!
Look forward to January when some Dubai chap will give them lotsa money to buy players. LOL... poor Pennant, sure get sold away. HAHA!
Look out for the Real Madrid and Bayern Munich match as well, where both teams which are considered serious cup contenders battle it out in the field. Real Madrid key players would have to be Ruud Van Nistelrooy (Man Utd leaver) and Raul Gonzalez. While on the other hand, Bayern possesses young and talented players like Schweinsteiger, Podolski and Lahm.
Who shall progress, who will be elminated, all will be known soon... One things for sure, LIVERPOOL GG!!
